Landlords must protect their tenants from pests

Building in a very poor state

Don’t let your property become a home for rats

A council gave a landlord sufficient warning about an uncapped sewer that allowed rats to lodge at the property as well as dangerous wiring. After doing nothing, the council acted and fined the landlord £14,000.

The council in question (Wolverhampton), as most councils do, wanted to ensure that the safety of residents is upheld and is of paramount importance. They work closely with landlords to ensure their properties meet the required regulations and offer a range of support and advice. Enforcement is the last resort.

We suggest listening to your tenants and the council and if there is any sign of pests, contact us now!
